Each year, Black History Month invites us to reflect on the history, consider the present, and strive for a better future. As we recognize the contributions of inspiring people of color, it invites us to consider our own impact on the world. Throughout out this month, our staff at Bradley has been highlighting quotes from notable people, from historical figures to our own staff and children at Bradley.

This week, I have been challenged by the message of Jesse Owens. Owens was an Olympian who won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympic Games and is regarded as one of the greatest track and field athletes of all times. In spite of the discrimination he faced in his own life and athletic career, Owens could say:

“Find the good. It’s all around you. Find it. Showcase it and you will start believing in it” —Jesse Owens

What we choose to focus on will shape the choices we make and the kind of people we become. When we see the good around us and invest in doing good ourselves, we make the world more just for everyone.
