A few years ago, we received a message from a young woman named Julie. Several years earlier, when she was a teenager in need of help, she had come to Bradley.

Now she had a story of her own to share.

Julie told us that she had held on to a little anchor ornament that one of our staff members made for her during Bradley’s arts & crafts sessions. Although it may have seemed like a small gesture at the time, Julie wanted us to know that moment of kindness had stayed with her for all those years.

Julie explained that she had recently graduated from college with a degree in psychology, and she was about to begin graduate school and pursue a career in counseling. And she wanted us to know that she had just given away that little anchor ornament—to her first client.

Reading Julie’s words moved us deeply.

To know that something so simple had meant so much to her that she felt inspired to carry it forward in her own healing work was incredibly humbling. It reminds us that even when we don’t see the results of our work right away, what we do matters. It also proves that making a personal connection can truly have a lasting impact on the children at Bradley, and that even one small moment of kindness can change someone’s future.
